I bought this after a co-worker dropped a couple of hundred dollars on a margarita maker and I knew I wanted something...but not at those prices!
So, went to Amazon.com and found this for under $30 with free shipping. Read the reviews and I was sold. Ordered and got it a few days later.
Out of the box, rinsed and on the counter. In a few minutes, we were enjoying sno-cones! My 7 y/o son is hooked! It may be a little loud, but it is shaving ice! The sno-cone setting is perfect for those icey treats.
Used the slushie setting with the stirring arm and pre-made margarita mix and it made great drinks. If you are looking for slushies like those from the local convenient store, you may be a tad disappointed since the slushie ice on this machine is a little courser. But, those commerical slushe machines infuse A LOT of air into the mix, making it more frothy..when you make slushies at home, it's all ice and your ingredients - so they last longer, stay colder and aren't filed with unknown chemicals.
I highly recommend this machine to anyone looking for a sensible alternative to those expensive drink makers. Plus, it's the size of coffee maker and stores easily in your cabinets when you're not using it.

This shaver is nice and I love it. Although, I wish it could make the ice more fine. Currently the ice shards are about medium sized, which isn't bad but a bit smaller and it would be amazing. I would buy this again no problem. I mainly use it to make drinks for myself and company.

I was looking forward to this little gizmo for making snow cone type treats with my niece. It's inconsistent at best and takes a long time to shave a small amount of ice. I'm not exactly sure what causes it to work and then not (using the same type of ice cubes each time) but I found that you frequently have to stop and adjust the ice to get it going again. I think I'm going to pass it on to my niece as she seemed entertained by it but I will go back to using my cusinart's grating disc when I need shaved ice.

This is a replacement for the machine that just broke after more than seven years. It was an old cheap $20 Rival that required a hand on top to operate and did not have much of a capacity. From that machine, this is much better. Both hand free and a larger capacity, and comes with a container with stirring rod for mixing the syrup at the same time. My only complaint so far is that it seems to clog a lot but I don't mind. I just like the idea of hands free so I can at least walk away and usually it will fix itself over time. Hopefully this will last as long as the other I owned. I feel that for ~$30, it is worth the money.
